Protective clothing manufacturers routinely test their products for resistance to liquid and viral penetration. Instead, our approach measures a continuous variable time of penetration during a slow and continuous increase of hydrostatic pressure and retains the location of penetration events. Using a fluorescent dye to enhance visual detection, we evaluate temporal and spatial patterns of penetration events. We then compare the time of liquid penetration with the time of penetration of two bacteriophages Phi-X and MS2. For the fabric tested, the mean viral penetration occurred 0. The breakthrough time of MS2 was not different from the Phi-X bacteriophage. The time of liquid penetration was a latent indicator of the time of viral penetration.

Viral Penetration Test - Eurofins Scientific
Nelson Labs offers a comprehensive set of tests for surgical gown and drape barrier performance and biocompatibility. These tests are essential to ensuring performance properties are validated to support marketing label claims and to classify surgical drapes and gowns. For the Viral Penetration test, compatibility assessment should occur for each material and for each site, if different. Manufacturers should also consider the microbial cleanliness of the gown following EN ISO using the bioburden test method. Particle shedding properties and biocompatibility should also be assessed depending on the material type and intended use.

A new approach to measure the resistance of fabric to liquid and viral penetration
The test is also required for k submissions to the FDA, as well as for protective equipment per national fire protection agency regulation. Additionally, this test has been used by textile manufacturers to qualify their product for sale as raw material to medical device manufacturers. Nelson Labs staff assisted in the development of this test method and has more experience in Viral Penetration testing than any other company. We provide a one-stop shop for all PB70 testing. In this Viral Penetration test procedure, specimens are prepared by randomly cutting the test material into approximately 75 mm x 75 mm swatches.
